How Festiwool started

Festiwool founder Philippa is passionate about knitting and crochet. She actively shares here knowledge with her peers as well as introducing the younger generation to the joys and benefits that these age-old crafts can bring through school workshops and clubs throughout Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

Her love of knitting goes back to her childhood, when she spent a considerable time in Great Ormond Street Hospital. She found knitting therapeutic and good for relieving boredom.

A founder-member of Hitchin Stitchin', a group of like minded crafters who enjoy getting together, sharing their skills and conversation over good coffee. They hold talks, demo's, workshops and knitting/crafting away trips throughout the year... and are renowned locally for 'Yarn Bombing' events.

Attending the first Waltham Abbey Wool Show gave Philippa the idea of running her own wool and yarn festival, to bring her passion (and like minded folk) to Hitchin and the wider community and in 2014, with help from many members of Hitchin Stitchin', Festiwool was born.
