At Beaker Button we have a passion for Dorset button making. We design and make exclusive Dorset button kits, from every day use buttons to jewellery kits, including brooches, necklaces and bracelets.

Our kits are suitable for beginners with very little stitching experience. All our kits come with written instructions, supported by full colour photographs of each stage of button making. They have all the materials you need including a sewing needle.

We stock Dorset button instruction books covering a huge range of button making techniques, all written Jen Best, founder of Beaker Button. As with our kits, each design has written instructions supported by full colour photographs for each stage. We design and produce knitting and crochet patterns, all incorporating Dorset buttons.

New for this year we have a range of simple sewing kits, made with pressed wool felt and our own hand dyed threads. Also new is our really popular Shawl pin kit, so you can make your own shawl pin for that special shawl. They come in thread and non thread versions so you can use your own matching thread or choose one of our delicious colours.

We stock a wide selection of rings suitable for Dorset button making. We produce a large range of hand dyed threads, dyed in our studio in Hampshire. We’re happy to provide expert advice for making your own bespoke buttons.

Jen Best, founder of Beaker Button, has been making Dorset buttons for over 35 years. She learnt the technique at her Gran’s knee and has been exploring the possibilities of Dorset button making ever since. She is the author of three (soon to be four) popular Dorset button making books and has taught countless group and individual classes over the last 6 and a half year. After designing a range of kits soon after opening her bricks and mortar wool shop in Weyhill, Hampshire, she quickly realised that she wanted complete control over her creations so began dyeing her own yarns and threads for her kits. She attends many show, teaches classes for groups all over Britain and runs one to one sessions from her Hampshire Studio.
